Beautiful In The Eyes Of Society

With society’s unrealistic standards of beauty, it is hard to feel good about your body. Nowadays young girls are taught that to be beautiful your weight has to fall within a certain range on a scale, you must have a thigh gap, and your features should be symmetrical, when in reality less than ten percent of all women in the United States fit into what we call “beautiful”.

Personally, when I hear the word beautiful I think of someone’s personality but I also think about the pictures of models and celebrities in magazines and all the times I’ve wished I could look like them and I think a lot of people can agree when I say that we want to be accepting of everyone but because of the society we live in, we can’t help sometimes being overly critical in our thinking.

Being beautiful in the eyes of society is something that is not easily achieved because of the photoshopped photos on social media and in magazines and celebrities coming out with products to make your lips appear bigger. We don’t realize it but these things are what is tearing our society apart.

By taking part in Kylie Jenner lip challenges and competitions to see who can do the best makeup is teaching young girls that they need to have big lips and be able to have perfect eyeliner and teaching young boys that it is okay to objectify girls and that girls aren’t beautiful unless they look a certain way. I’m not saying you shouldn’t wear makeup because I wear makeup most days and that’s okay, as long as you’re doing it for the right reasons. You shouldn’t be wearing makeup to look like you are not, you should wear makeup because it’s fun and yes it can make you feel better about yourself and you should let it but you shouldn’t depend on it because at the end of the day that makeup comes off.

Yes, it is perfectly okay to have insecurities we all have them and we all want to make them disappear but our flaws are what make us who we are and when we become obsessed with changing our flaws we become obsessed with changing ourselves.

Beauty is only skin deep but personality is to the bone.

Wow, so that was a lot. I hope you enjoyed! If you did and want to see more post like this please let me know down in the comments below. Also let me know if you agree with anything I said or if you have ever felt you had to change yourself to be beautiful. See you next time.
